TV wildlife presenter Chris Packham recently helped to launch of the Wealth of Wildlife (WoW) project - a new flagship project of the Cumbria Biodiversity Partnership.
Over £860,000 towards the project has been provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Rural Regeneration Cumbria and the Landfill Tax.
The project has a wide remit to promote biodiversity, but one element of the project focuses on wildlife gardening and WoW will provide materials and advice to 20 households across Cumbria, from urban backyard to country cottage, to allow participants to make their homes and gardens more "biodiversity-friendly". Families will be asked to keep a record of the changes made and the benefits achieved for wildlife by keeping a journal, taking photographs or videos over the three years of the project. The results will then be used to encourage others to do their bit for wildlife.
